Good to jam with: A cool breeze
M. Ward's new album A Wasteland Companion just might be your next full album purchase. I was pleasantly surprised by his ability to create another solid and refreshing album after producing Post-War and Hold Time and after his short solo-retreat to create a few albums with Zooey Deschanel under the name of She & Him. I will admit that there are a few duds here and there on the album, but overall and as a whole, this album is well produced with the majority of the singles being pretty amazing and pleasing to the ear. Today's featured single "The First Time I Ran Away" is one that seems almost made with Spring weather and cool breezes in mind because the elements of the song tend to resemble the freshness of this time of year in a magical and soothing way. I went ahead and threw together a playlist of other gems from the album to give you a better feel for the sound as a whole because there are several that I felt worthy of featuring on their own. A close second is the single "There's a Key" that hosts a unique rendition of guitar picking paired with calming vibes. Thirdly, there is something about the featured single "A Wasteland Companion" that isn't trying to be revolutionary in sound, but reaches a turning point about mid-way through and finds a way to completely stop time and focuses in on simple, yet beautiful combinations that go together nicely. If you are a fan of She & Him, then you should check out the upbeat, catchy single titled "Sweetheart" on the album that sheds some Zooey love throughout the chorus. Other recommended tracks are "Wild Goose," "Watch the Show," and "Crawl After You," which are all available respectively on the playlist below. Let me know what you guys think. Which ones are your favorites?
