Asa- Jailer

Jam:  Jailer
Good to jam when:  Needing a soulful lift

Meet Asa:  a Nigerian soul singer with Parisian roots that can blend a mix of soul, funk, jazz, and even some reggae elements while simultaneously belting a damn good tune. She won the Victoires de la Musique French music award for Best Female Act a little earlier this year because not only is her music easily jammable, but it also finds a way to have you questioning some of the tougher issues of everyday livin' through her powerful lyrics. The Guardian online described her voice as "so achingly pretty" with music that, for the first time, has you dancing to a song about the ozone layer. Unfortunately for us 'mericans, her new album titled "Beautiful Perfection," which she says was crafted solely for the purpose of giving you a lift, dropped in Europe in late October last year and won't be available to the U.S. until the fall, but you can find most of her popular songs, including "Jailer," on her previously released album on iTunes until then. So keep a look out for this one, because it is one of those albums that you are able to jam to the whole way through that is guaranteed to have your hand reaching to crank the volume, your foot promptly meeting the surface of the floor, and your head bobbing like a chicken who woke up on the right side of the coop.
